Our Role
At Peachy Pet, we work with local craftsmen to find new applications for their leather scraps. These pieces are perfectly usable, but get tossed away due to aesthetic imperfections that make them unfit for, in our supplier’s case, saddle bags and belts.
Instead of letting them go to waste, we reimagine them into timeless, playful, and quality pet products. And thanks to you, we’ve been able to upcycle 100 kgs of leather scraps to date!
Why work with scraps?
We’re often asked if we carry vegan leather products. The simple answer is no — but there’s a lot more to it than that. After doing our research and talking to local craftsmen, climate activists, and vegan friends, we learned that the most sustainable material to work with is actually … waste!
VEGAN LEATHER
is essentially made of plastic. To produce it, you have to extract fossil fuels and use chemicals, non-natural dyes, and excessive amounts of water to transform it into leather. On top of that, it's not biodegradable or recyclable.
PLANT-BASED VEGAN LEATHER
can be made out of discarded byproducts of mushroom, pineapple, banana and other fibrous fruit. It provides income for farmers, reduces food waste, and (in most cases) is completely biodegradable. But it's still quite expensive and hard to source.
GENUINE LEATHER
is heavily debated as an industry because it's profited off of the exploitation of animals, land, and underpaid workers for centuries. The product itself, if made skilfully and mindfully, can last a very long time and eventually biodegrade.
A WASTED OPPORTUNITY
So what about the industry's waste? Well, that's where we come in. We upcycle leather scraps from local craftsmen and turn them into quality, everyday pet products.
